Rachel visited Leeds General Infirmary’s Children’s Cardiac Unit on Friday, and met surgeons, nurses and Doctors who work at one of the country’s leading cardiac units for children. As part of plans for concentrating services in one place and making sure patients have access to the highest quality treatment, some children’s heart units will be closed.

Rachel is keen to make sure that the LGI’s unit remains:

I saw on Friday the dedication of staff at the children’s heart unit. I was impressed by the amount of expertise concentrated in one location, and the obvious quality of the service on offer. I am keen to help keep this hugely important service in Leeds.’

The LGI’s unit was one of the first specialist centres to openĀ in the country, over 40 years ago. It provides services for patients from across Yorkshire and the Humber, and benefits from close links to the expertise at the adult’s cardiac unit at the LGI.
