Good luck to all those that are receiving their GCSE results today. I hope that students across Leeds will get the grades that they deserve. Schools, students and their families have worked so hard throughout the Covid-19 pandemic in truly extraordinary circumstances, and I hope that all the hard work will be reflected in the results.
Many students, their families and teachers will have watched in horror at the Government’s A-Level results fiasco over the last week. This will also have been concerning for those waiting for their GCSEs and wondering if they too will be unfairly treated by an algorithm that worked against individual students. I am glad that after a week of constant pressure from young people, schools and the Labour Party that A-level and GCSE students will now have a fairer system for their grades. My heart goes out to all those A-Level students who have been denied their preferred course or university as a result of the Government’s incompetence.
It can be nerve-wracking waiting for results but I hope everyone gets the grades they truly deserve today. Labour will keep pushing the Government for the fairest outcomes and best opportunities for all young people now and in the future.
