I was pleased to be able to represent the people of Leeds West during the Budget debates. Once again, the Government have created a budget that only benefits big businesses, and the wealthy. This has only made it clearer why a Labour Government is needed in order to stand up for those who do not fit into those criteria.

It seems as if there is austerity for some, and riches for others. The Government have also failed at their promise to get rid of the budget deficit, as they promised in 2010. There are still faults with Universal Credit, and whilst I gladly support the Government’s initiative for a debt support programme, there is little acknowledgement of how they can prevent people getting into debt, and that the ongoing austerity they have brought in is the reason so many are in debt. All that the Government offers is too little too late for my constituents, and others around the country.

I was pleased to be able to stand up for the people of Leeds West and ensure that their views were represented and heard in Parliament. The Government seem to not have a plan for our economy, and this budget only highlighted more why a Labour Government is needed, to create a fairer and equal society.
