It was fantastic to be at the unveiling of the new plaque to celebrate the completion of the Armley Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) with the Armley Councillors.

The Armley THI was a joint funded Leeds City Council and Heritage Lottery Fund project that aimed to revitalise the historic commercial centre of Armley.

The five year regeneration scheme built upon Armley’s strong commercial legacy, renovating buildings which date from the late Victorian and Edwardian era and providing an economic boost to local shopkeepers and traders.

The scheme targetted key properties on Branch Road and Town Street with some examples below for the shop front renewal and reinstatement of traditional architectural features.

Before grant scheme: Modern shop fronts and external solid roller shutters

After grant scheme: Balustrade at eaves level reinstated, traditional shop fronts, with ornate capitals and pilasters replicating existing historic examples, and internal roller shutters.
