The way you register to vote is changing!

Important information: you will now have to manually opt-out of the open register.

You may have received a letter in the last few days informing you that the way you register to vote is changing.

If you have received the letter you do not need to manually register to vote and won't have to register again unless your entitlement to vote changes or you move house. If you do move house or change your name you should let your local council know.

However, if you do not want to be on the open register you will now have to request to opt-out. The open register is an extract of the electoral register, but is not used for elections, so removing your name from this does not affect your right to vote.

The open register can be bought by any person, company or organisation and for example is used by charities and businesses to confirm your address details.

To opt-out of the open register if you are a Leeds resident you will need to contact the Leeds City Council Electoral Services department by:

Telephone: 0113 222 4411

Email: electors@leeds.gov.uk

Some people are not automatically re-registered to vote, due to moving house or changing their personal details since the last election. You can visit www.gov.uk/yourvotematters to find out more and obtain a registration form.
