Recently Rachel met apprentices at Allied Glass’ manufacturing plant in Leeds.  The British Glass Manufacturers’ Confederation, the trade association for the UK glass industry, were also involved in the visit, which was hosted by Alan Henderson, CEO of Allied Glass (pictured with Rachel).

As well as touring the factory to see the molten glass being turned into bottles, Rachel learned how British Glass, through its Glass Academy training and skills development initiative, is working to boost apprenticeship numbers at the company. She also discussed the Academy’s initiative to develop more effective links between employers and training providers to up-skill the current workforce.

Rachel said, “We know that the best results for creating a skilled workforce come when employers and apprentices work together. It has been fascinating to meet young people who are just starting out in the glass industry and see the impressive work that Allied Glass do in Leeds.”
