I joined over 200 women to celebrate International Women’s Day.

I was delighted to celebrate International Women’s Day at an event organised by Linda McAvan MEP to raise money for the Safer Spaces project which helps women and girl refugees from Syria.
We heard from a representative of the project and also had a talk from Dr Julie V. Gottlieb on ‘Women after the Vote was won’. I also spoke briefly about Alice Bacon, one of two women elected in 1945 in Yorkshire – the first women to represent Leeds in parliament. The event was an ideal opportunity to network, and to raise money for such an important cause.
