Rachel Reeves Labour Member of Parliament for Leeds West
Over 60 local people turned out to support Bramley Library last night and share their ideas about how this fantastic facility can be best used. The crowd was a diverse mix of the Leeds West community, bringing together old and young, local groups, school teachers and staff.
Also among attendees were former MP and community activist John Battle, Bramley Councillors Ted Hanley, Kevin Ritchie and Caroline Gruen, Armley Councillor Alice Smart, Head of Leeds Libraries Beverley Rice and Kirkstall Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, Executive Board Member for Digital and Creative Technology, Culture & Skills.
Rachel opened the meeting by discussing the proposals to reduce opening hours at Bramley Library and the campaign so far, before inviting attendees to share their thoughts and ideas. Many great suggestions were put forward regarding how to use the library more creatively and deliver more events, classes and activities. Rachel suggested forming a “Friends” group, where people could come together and share ideas and huge numbers signed up to take part. A number of people also shared memories of the library and explained how they enjoy using the facilities.
The BRAMLEY LIBRARY, BIG READ, READ IN, will take place tomorrow at Bramley Library between 10am and 11am. All ages are welcome for this fun event and we encourage you to dress up as your favourite character.
