George Osborne’s Comprehensive Spending Review made mention of various transport schemes yesterday, but there remains uncertainty about the future of Kirkstall Forge station.

Rachel Reeves, MP for Leeds West, has campaigned for the station to receive the funding to back up private sector investment in the scheme. She said: “The Kirkstall Forge station really is the kind of project that we need, to create jobs, private investment, and a greener way of living. I’ve called on the government to back this cost-effective project and hope to hear positive news next week.”

The station is part of a wider project that promises 2400 new jobs, 1100 new homes, 300,000 sq feet of office space and 100,000 sq feet of commercial and retail space. The new station would cost £19.5m, and this would be met with £4m of private investment towards the new station, with support also going towards Apperley Bridge station and facilities at stations around the city.
