Yorkshire celebrates the Tour De France Grand Départ this weekend, with the world’s biggest cycle race starting in Leeds. The excitement is building and Rachel is very excited about watching this great sporting event on her doorstep.
Leeds will welcome ‘Le Tour’ as part of stage 1 on Saturday 5 July and witness the Grand Départ, which begins at 11:10 am outside Leeds Art Gallery and heads along The Headrow before joining the A61. It will pass through Scott Hall, Chapel Allerton, Moortown, Alwoodley, Harewood, Arthington, Pool in Wharfedale and Otley and then head into Yorkshire Dales and end in Harrogate.
Rachel and the Leeds West Labour team want you to make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime experience, so plan ahead to avoid traffic disruptions and road closures. Check Le Tour’s website for more information on how you can plan your weekend by clicking here.
The best option might be walking on the lovely day, or maybe getting on your bike!
“This is such an exciting time for Leeds and all of Yorkshire, the City is looking magnificent to welcome the tour and I know that many schools in Leeds West have been doing projects to celebrate this ‘once in a lifetime’ event. I do hope that Leeds West residents will line the route and share in the excitement!”
