Rachel Reeves Labour Member of Parliament for Leeds West
IMPORTANT COVID-19 UPDATE: From Monday, Leeds will be categorised as very high risk or ‘Tier 3’ because of the rising rates of Covid-19 infection and hospital admissions.
This is extremely serious, and I know the decision has not been taken lightly by West Yorkshire Leaders. I know the immense strain this will put on families, businesses, and jobs, and urge you to get in contact if you are struggling.
Here is what the new measures mean:
You must not socialise with anybody you do not live with, unless you have formed a support bubble, in any indoor setting or in any private garden.
You must not socialise in a group of more than 6 in an outdoor public space such as a park.
Pubs and bars must close. They can only remain open where they operate as if they were a restaurant, which means serving substantial meals, like a main lunchtime or evening meal. They may only serve alcohol as part of such a meal.
Schools and universities remain open.
Places of worship remain open, but household mixing is not permitted and social distancing must be obeyed.
Weddings and funerals can go ahead with restrictions on the number of attendees. However, wedding receptions are not allowed.
Gyms may open but guidance is against indoor exercise classes taking place.
You should try to avoid travelling outside the area you are in, other than for things like work, education or youth services, to meet caring responsibilities.
You should avoid staying overnight in another part of the UK.
Casinos, Soft Play Areas and Betting shops will be closed
I am determined to get the government to do more to support families and jobs in Leeds West.
You should download the NHS Test & Trace App asap, available here https://www.covid19.nhs.uk/
It’s more important than ever to regularly wash our hands, wear a face covering and get tested and self isolate if you have symptoms.
Book your test here www.nhs.uk/coronavirus or by calling 119.
Please stay safe and observe social distancing.
