Harriet Harman Speaks at Local Fundraiser

Rachel recently hosted a fundraising dinner to raise crucial funds for Labour key-seat campaigns in Dewsbury and Elmet and Rothwell, as well as for Leeds West Labour. Harriet Harman, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party and Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, attended as guest speaker and screenwriter Lisa Holdsworth hosted the auction.

The fundraiser was held in the fantastic Leeds University Refectory and was kindly sponsored by Kirkstall Brewery and Resource Print.

Rachel thanked attendees and said:

'I am very grateful for all of your support so far – it really will make a huge different. People all across West Yorkshire and Leeds have felt the damaging effects of four and a half years of a Tory government and only Labour can undo the damage.

We are at a very important time. Six months out from the general election, all of your efforts here tonight will help us stop David Cameron getting the keys back to Number 10 on the 7thMay.

All across our region people are crying out for change. From disability payment delays to the bedroom tax, this government has hit the most vulnerable hardest and only a Labour government can deliver the change we need.

I know you will do all you can to support the key seat campaigns in Dewsbury, and Elmet and Rothwell, getting Paula and Veronica elected will be crucial in delivering a Labour government.'
