As a result of the general election being called, on Wednesday Rachel held a meeting with local supporters to formally approve her campaign to become the MP for Leeds West, and to sign the necessary nomination papers.

Supporters from across Leeds West attended the meeting in Kirkstall, where Rachel spoke about the need for Labour representation in Leeds West, and also across the UK.This election poses a critical choice between a Labour government who will secure the recovery or a Conservative party who have consistently made the wrong choices through the recession.

Rachel said, "Its great that the general election has been called, I am looking forward to putting across Labour's message in Leeds West over the next month and meeting as many people as possible in the next few weeks - on the doorstep, at street stalls and at local meetings. We need to secure the economic recovery, and protect spending on front line pubic services."
